Introductory Firearms Experience


Roy Hill began shooting at the the age of 8. He won a pair of Arkansas three-position smallbore rifle championships while a member of the Scott County 4-H Shooting Sports team, and later competed as a civilian shooter with the University of Arkansas chapter of the Pershing Rifles.

He currently works as a college English Instructor and has taught college courses at five colleges and universities in two states.

He is an NRA Certified Pistol Instructor, and licensed by the Arkansas State Police (license # 02-423) to conduct CCW training for the state of Arkansas.

Recently, he earned his Advaced International Rifle Coach's certification from the NRA and USA Shooting and is the adviser and coach of a collegiate air rifle club team.

He is also a graduate of both the Badlands Tactical Basic Sniper Rifle and the Badlands Tactical Advanced Phase I courses in Grandfield, Oklahoma, is an NRA certified Range Safety Officer, and has worked as a safety officer at the D&L Sports Tactical Marksman's Match at D&L Sports in Gillette, Wyoming.

Arkansas Concealed Carry

The Arkansas Concealed Carry course prepares the student to safely and legally carry a concealed handgun in accordance with Arkansas' Act 419 of 1995 and Acts 51, 487, and 786 of 1999. Classroom and range time combined is approximately six hours. The legal portion of the class is taught by a currently practicing attorney. Class size is limited to six students. Cost is $75 per student.

NRA Basic Pistol


The NRA Basic Pistol course prepares the student to safely own, clean, and operate various types of modern handguns. Classroom and range time combined is approximately 10 hours. Class size is limited to six students. Cost is $75 per student.

 

 



NRA Personal Protection in the Home


The NRA Personal Protection in the Home course prepares students to plan, prepare and execute self-defense strategies using firearms inside their own homes. Some of the topics covered are the legal and emotional ramifications of armed self defense inside the home, use of concealment and cover in a defensive situation, and handgun skills development exercises. Classroom and range time combined is approximately  8 hours. The legal portion of this class is taught by a currently practicing attorney. Class size is limited to six students. Cost is $75 per student.

 

 

 


NRA Home Firearm Safety


The NRA Home Firearm Safety course teaches the rules for safe gun handling, and how to identify, unload, and safely handle many types of modern and antique firearms. Classroom time is approximately 4 hours. There is no live firing in this course. Class size is limited to 30. Cost is $35 per student. For groups of 10 or more, this course can be taught at sites other than Possum Pistol Academy
.

 

 

 


Introductory Firearms Experience

The Introductory Firearms Experience gives a first time or novice shooter an introduction to the concepts of gun safety, and the chance to handle and fire a variety of firearms under a closely supervised and controlled conditions. Range time is approximately two hours. Cost is $35. Firearms are available for rent at minimal fees depending on make, caliber, and number of rounds to be fired.

 

Possum Pistol Academy is located in the Ozark Mountains, near Rudy , Arkansas. Only a few miles west of I-540, it is a 30 minute drive from the heart of downtown Fort Smith, or a 45 minute drive from southern Fayetteville.
